What we read out from Volkswagens
The Volkswagen lineup ranges from fully electric to plug-in hybrid, and each version requires a different readout. We retrieve the same values for both, so you can compare them side by side.
The SOH percentage: the actual capacity compared to the factory value
The cell balance: the voltage difference between the weakest and the strongest cell
The charging history: how often it has been fast-charged and how deeply it has been discharged
The warranty status of the battery pack

Which Volkswagens we can test
From the ID series to the older e-Golf and the GTE plug-ins: with Volkswagen, the difference lies mainly in the years of manufacture. In total, there are 37 Volkswagen versions in our list, divided across 21 model groups, including the ID.3, Golf GTE Plug-in, and ID.4.
We do not yet have enough measurements from Volkswagen to provide a reliable picture. However, the same applies to every brand: the measurement reads the actual capacity, and this regularly turns out differently than the mileage would suggest.
What a battery pack is worth depends less on the year of manufacture and more on how it has been driven. Charging behavior, depth of discharge, and the number of fast-charging sessions together determine how much capacity remains. Consequently, with Volkswagen, there is more of a difference between two cars from the same year than you would expect based on the mileage.
The measurement is carried out via the OBD port. You will receive the SOH percentage, the cell balance, the warranty status, the charging history, and a comparison with similar cars, summarized in a CARA-certified certificate as a PDF and a JPEG.
