Hyundai battery testing: an independent SOH certificate

We are testing 24 versions of Hyundai, spread across 12 model groups. Within three minutes, you will know what the battery pack is still worth.

WHAT COMES OUT OF THE BATTERY PACK

What we read out from Hyundais

The vast majority of the Hyundai versions in our list are fully electric, from the early models to the newest generation. For the older versions, the readout is the most important, as that is where the variation between cars increases the most.

  • The SOH percentage: the actual capacity compared to the factory value

  • The cell balance: the voltage difference between the weakest and the strongest cell

  • The charging history: how often it has been fast-charged and how deeply it has been discharged

  • The warranty status of the battery pack

  • A comparison with similar cars of the same year of manufacture

Everything comes directly from the battery management system via the OBD port. No estimation based on age or mileage. Within three minutes, the CARA-certified certificate is ready, as a PDF and as a JPEG.

Which Hyundais we can test

The Ioniq 5 and Kona are easy to read out, including the cell voltages per module. In total, there are 24 Hyundai versions in our list, divided into 12 model groups, including Ioniq 5, Kona MY24+, Inster.

We do not have enough measurements from Hyundai yet to provide a reliable picture. However, the same applies to every brand: the measurement reads the actual capacity, and this regularly turns out differently than the mileage would suggest.

What a battery pack is worth depends less on the year of manufacture than on how it was driven. Charging behavior, depth of discharge, and the number of fast charges together determine how much capacity remains. Consequently, with Hyundai, there is more difference between two cars from the same year than you would expect based on the mileage.

The measurement is done via the OBD port. You receive the SOH percentage, the cell balance, the warranty status, the charging history, and a comparison with similar cars, summarized in a CARA-certified certificate as a PDF and a JPEG.
